The Shed at Hudson Yards
Intertwined among the Highline, a commercial, and residential tower, the Penn Station railyard, and Hudson Yard plaza, The Shed is the word’s first retractable performance venue with 16,000 SF of convertible performance space. When extended, the covered canopy provides an acoustically controlled performance space for 1,000 patrons. Additionally, the Shed provides a 500 seat Black-box theater, 25,000 SF of museum quality gallery space, 6,000 SF of clear span event space, and indoor dining.
Faced with unforeseen challenges in the delivery of the world’s first movable building including a 4,000 ton retractable performance venue, The Shed engaged Ron mid-construction as the Project Director to perform a forensic review and reset of the existing project schedule and budget. Once the new parameters were established, Ron oversaw the project as the client’s authority overseeing the services provided by the designers, construction manager, and owner’s representative. The facility successfully opened in the Fall of 2019.
